Giving Kitchen is a nonprofit that provides financial assistance to food-service workers in need.

Giving Kitchen, a nonprofit that provides financial assistance to food-service workers in need, has appointed Nancy Oswald, a longtime member of Atlanta’s hospitality community, as the new chair of its board of directors.

Oswald co-owns and operates Sizzling Steak Concepts, the world’s largest Ruth’s Chris Steak House franchisee, and serves as its chief marketing officer. The company operates 12 Ruth’s Chris restaurants, including four in metro Atlanta. Last year, Darden Restaurants Inc. agreed to purchase Ruth's Chris Steak House in a deal worth $715 million.

Oswald succeeds William “Bill” Brewster, a partner with Kilpatrick Townsend & Stockton LLP, who died in September from complications of Addison’s disease, according to a remembrance on the law firm’s website. Brewster had been chair of Giving Kitchen’s board for four years.

“Giving Kitchen was born out of tragedy and uncertainty and has consistently risen above adversity to support our community in times of need,” Oswald said in a prepared statement. “I view stepping in as chair at this difficult time as part of that legacy."

Oswald is a trustee emeritus of Giving Kitchen and a founding board member of the organization, which provides emergency support through financial grants and essential resources.

The announcement comes on the heels of other executive changes at the James Beard Foundation Award-winning nonprofit group.

In August, Giving kitchen named its first CEO in Allison Padilla-Goodman. She was previously vice president of the Anti-Defamation League's Southern Division.

Padilla-Goodman succeeded Bryan Schroeder, who previously led Giving Kitchen as its executive director.

Last month, Schroeder was named interim executive director of the Side by Side Brain Injury Clubhouse.
