Unidirectional Water Flushing 6/6/23

The Fairhaven Water Department will continue flushing water mains tonight 6/6/2023 at 8:00 p.m.

The flushing effort is anticipated to be conducted for 8-10 hours.

Although all efforts are taken to isolate the target areas, properties outside the targeted area may be affected.

This effort is being undertaken to remove the sediment from the water system. As a result, if possible, please avoid using water while the hydrant flushing istaking place as this will draw the dirty water into your property.

Areas of Flushing:

South of Huttleston Avenue(Rt 6) from Hamlet Street to Shaw Road.

During the flushing process, it is not uncommon to have low water pressure or for a yellow, brown or reddish tint to appear in the water. These harmless mineral deposits settle in the water mains and flushing fire hydrants stir these deposits, sometimes causing a brief discoloration of the water. · If you encounter discolored water following hydrant flushing, run the cold water taps only. · Do not use hot water taps throughout your home at bathroom sinks, tubs, kitchen faucets, etc. for 5 to 15 minutes, or until water clears. · By not using your hot water taps, this should prevent discolored water from entering your hot water system. If you doexperience discolored water on your hot side - Run water closest to your meter which is most likely outside - Call the Water Department at 508-979-4032 - Do not dry or use bleach on your laundry if discolored - Use an Iron-Out product to remove stains
